Personality: Born the first true lycan (able to change between human and werewolf, not stuck in the latter, unthinking form of his ancestors), Lucian is very determined to suppress his more savage nature, clinging to a veneer of civilization with all his considerable strength. He berates his followers for acting like animals. He is strong of will and body, and frightfully intelligent.
He is a charismatic leader, gaining loyalty from the force of his personality and his burning desire to better his race and keep them from the slavery he lead them out of centuries ago. He retains a burning hatred for his enemy, Viktor, his former vampiric master and killer of his love of centuries ago, Viktor's daughter Sonja.
Canon Point Where Character Deviates: At the end of the movie, he manages to kill Kraven before he gets shot and escapes.
History: Lucian was born in slavery, as all of his kind, the daytime slaves of vampiric masters. Unlike his fellows, though, he was born with the ability to change from werewolf to human, and retained human rationality. Viktor, one of the vampire elders and his master, almost killed him at birth, not sure what he was capable of, but changed his mind, raising him instead like a trusted pet, a dog at his beck and call. He was given other slaves and forced to infect them, turning them into lycans like him.
But something happened that Viktor never expected. Lucian fell in love with his daughter, Sonja, and she loved him in return. They had a clandestine relationship, eventually marrying in secret. And before long they discovered Sonja was pregnant. They made plans to escape, but her father began to get suspicious. He attacked her, drinking her blood to gain her memories. The two attempted to flee, but were captured. Sonja revealed her pregnancy, attempting to get him to accept them, but Viktor was horrified and condemned them both to death. Lucian was beaten and then forced to watch Sonja burned in the sun. He was left with her body, bound and helpless, to suffer before his death. But then the moon rose, giving him strength to change into his lycan form and escape.
He led a lycan rebellion against the vampires, managing to defeat them, sending the few survivors, including Viktor, fleeing. The vampires eventually banded together, attacking the lycans. Lucian made a deal with one of the Death Dealers, Kraven, who told the others that Lucian was dead, as proof displaying a patch of branded skin carved from the lycan's arm. And Lucian and his followers went into hiding, biding their time until they could revenge themselves on Viktor.
And so Lucian bided his time until the twenty first century, making his plans and setting them in place. Working to create a vampire/lycan hybrid, he kidnapped human descendants of the original immortal and tested their blood. While stalking one of the descendants, some of his men are attacked by vampires, drawing one's attention to their actions. There are various scuffles, winding up with Kraven eventually betraying him. In their final battle, Kraven attempts to shoot him with silver nitrate bullets, but misses, giving Lucian a chance to kill him and escape. He goes back into hiding, while Selene, Viktor's adopted daughter, kills Viktor and runs off with Michael, whom she bit, turning him into a hybrid to save his life, thus fulfilling Lucian's plans. Lucian spends a year in hiding, then returns to his people, leading them into a new era of peace with the vampires, negotiated with Selene and Michael.
